Gums and periodontitis in Casablanca

Protecting the bone that holds your teeth

Gums that bleed when you brush are not a minor detail. Left untreated, the inflammation can progress to periodontitis: the bone supporting the teeth is destroyed, until they become loose.

Two stages

Gingivitis or periodontitis?

01

Gingivitis

The inflammation affects only the gum.

  • Redness, swelling, bleeding
  • Reversible with scaling and good hygiene
02

Periodontitis

The bone and fibres holding the tooth are affected.

  • Lost bone does not grow back on its own
  • Treatment stops the disease and stabilises the teeth
Treatment

At the clinic, step by step

01

Periodontal assessment

Measuring the pockets around each tooth and X-rays to assess the bone.

02

Scaling

Complete removal of tartar above the gum line.

03

Root planing

Under local anaesthesia, cleaning of the roots below the gum line.

04

Re-evaluation

Healing check a few weeks later.

05

Maintenance

Regular scaling, adapted to your level of risk.

Periodontitis and implants

Unstabilised periodontitis is one of the main causes of implant failure. Before any implant placement or All-on-4, the gums are treated and a follow-up plan is put in place.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

Does scaling damage the enamel?

No. It removes tartar without attacking the enamel.

Can loose teeth become stable again?

Often, yes, once the inflammation is under control. The outlook depends on the remaining bone.

How often should I have scaling?

Usually once or twice a year; every 3 to 6 months if you have periodontitis.

Is periodontitis contagious?

The bacteria can be passed on, but the disease depends mainly on risk factors such as smoking.
